Greetings Frank, Finished my bridge using the plans I purchased from you in May. Built it in three weekends with the help of my wife and two children. Everyone really likes it. The bridge spans a limestone spring as it exits a pond in my back yard. As there is a two foot drop in elevation from one side to the other, it's a little steep, so I added cleats for footting on the steep end, as the pics show. I have attached pics of the bridge and the contruction. Feel free to use them on your site or to toss them as you wish. Thanks for making these plans available. Hi Frank - I purchased 22 foot bridge plans. Over last summer and this spring we put together the bridge. It came out great and your instructions/plans were excellent. The bridge spans a stream which feeds a private 7 acre lake in Central Vermont. The arches are 2x6 rough cut eastern hemlock that was bleached (while cleaning a deck), sealed with the Advanced Thompson Water Seal, glued with Exterior construction adhesive, and nailed together hot dipped galvanized nails. Even though the lumber varied by +/- 1/8 " the arches went together great (more time spent matching boards). We were able to construct the arches inside a barn on a flat concrete floor. Holding the arch up at the design height allowed us to transfer the angle to the footings properly. In fact we spent much time and effort building the footings and they came out within 1/4 inch across the 22' span. A 6x6 deck post carrier (bought at Home Depot) was set in 1/4 steel 90 degree plate (rust inhibitor and paint) that was set is angled concrete. Whole assembly bolts together with bolts set into the concrete. The arches were set into the footings with a hydraulic articulating arm on a truck used to move boilers and big fuel tanks. They dropped right in but we did manage to get the truck stuck and pulled it out with a tractor! The decking, railings, and cross pieces were 2x6 rough Eastern White Cedar that was face planed to 1 5/8's. The only pressure treated lumber used is for the ramp joists. All the Cedar was presealed with Thompson's Advanced Water seal and all fasteners are SS screws or bolts. The railing is going to be 1 inch braided nylon rope fitted with SS hardware strung as one loop per side. We will finish off the woods side with rock and soil to cover the concrete and the path will be mulched with the shavings from the cedar planing. Dear Frank, we are greatly pleased with how well it turned out, although I have to say that if I had known how long it was going to take me to build the bridge from scratch, I might never have started it. As they say, all's well that ends well, so now it's done! The strength and stability of the bridge never ceases to amaze me. My wife said she didn't know I had it in me. I told her I had a friend in Canada. Couldn't have done it without all your help. Frank, you were an absolute marvel to work with. Feel free to use me as a reference any time you need one. I thought you would like to see some in-progress and finished product pictures.

Your design worked out well. I modified it slightly but for the most part it is as designed. One thing that was mentioned but not stressed enough was that the 2x6's have to be all the same width. I wound up cutting them all to 5-1/2 inches and everything fell into place. Anyway it was so much fun I'm going to rip out an earthen bridge that I have and build another.
